Yep - I think it was a mistake to invite him to interview about it, and a mistake for him to accept.
People analyzing the interview as if what he's saying happen is exactly what happened is just silly. There's nothing to analyze here except that nothing good comes from parents publicly criticizing their kids' coach's decisions.

I'd decline the interview or just say "I'm disappointed with the position switch" and leave it at that
