Having dealt with a lot of parents, and been a sports dad a lot too,
Parents are good at evaluating their own kid. We (parents) hone in on them and can see all the reasons they are rock stars, or could be.
It’s much harder for them to objectively evaluate the other kids on the team and recognize that while their kid is really good, that other kid is just better. It’s even harder when it is obvious your kid could be a great part of a great team, but they got beat out for playing time.
