However, one thing he said stuck with me, because the evidence suggests he's right on Beau not getting the chance to win the starting QB spot - hard to do when you're getting no reps. As such, I still think the coaching staff really muffed this up, as they have many things. AS it was with Detmer - it wasn't the decision that was the problem necessarily, but the WAY in which it was done.

After Beau starting at QB last year, and looking promising before the concussion, they should have at least given him the opportunity to TRULY compete for the starting QB and win or lose - they owed him that - even more so seeing the type of guy he obviously is. Sure, let him have a few reps at RB, letting him know why - that you really want his skill-set on the field to help out the team, even if he ultimately doesn't win the QB derby, so you also want to see how he can contribute at RB. It would have been much easier to swallow for his dad, and really everyone if he got to compete right up through fall camp, and then notify him that the coaches had to make a final decision, and that they had chosen someone else who the coaches just felt out-performed Beau. Then, I think he (and his dad) would be much more amenable to contribute at RB, with the possibility of moving back to QB if injuries dictate that. As it is, with a pretty set change of position, I can understand the way this played out leaving a bad taste for his dad and other supporters.
