What I found...
Microsoft likes to say that they have a quality equal to MP3s at half the bitrate --- WRONG. But if you encode the WMA at the same bitrate, it has about a 15% fidelity edge over MP3. For example, encode a song at 160kbps you have about 80% of original fidelity for MP3 and 95% fidelity for WMA
