It looks like their changes were mainly to increase the amount of speed on the field. Safety and linebacker should both be faster this year. Adding Hadley should improve the safeties as well.

You don't fire or demote a guy whose defenses have finished 29 and 45 in S&P+ unless you're used to finishing top 20 every year or he's gone completely dysfunctional.
