The thumbs down come because people like watching football in December.
Not really too cosmic of an idea. I can either watch college football or meaningless early season NBA.
No one is arguing that the bowl system isn’t meaningless (and always has been, short of the playoff), people just like watching football. More the merrier.

there's no reason to do away with bowls or football in December, and a national tournament would resolve it all
