Unfortunately, yes. He was playing soccer (at UVU I believe) when he tried out
for BYU football. He came in and showed them his stuff but they (I assume Lamb) turned him away. Which is shocking to me because I'm sure most HS freshman kickers could do a better job than Almond. Anyway, he went up to Utah, walked on, took over kicking duties in the first game, and goes on to win the Lou Groza award.
His family was big Y fans then, but they're red now.
