I think it was very close and they chose to bet on experience.
The staff is hoping TM gets it together and that something clicks.
The Ly made a bet on senior experience vs freshman mistakes, if close. The upside in the decision is if TM is bad they bring in Wilson who could show upside, potentially better then the opposite scenario by pulling Wilson and trying to get TM going and Wilson taking a benching the wrong way.
Not sure I agree but this is my guess.
