None of these guys are big down field threats.

On the long balls Tanner has thrown, a reasonable percentage we’re not only catchable, but we’re right on the mark, including yesterday’s ball to Romney.

Shumway and Romney need to catch that deep ball. To be fair it looked like the defender grabbed Romney’s arm just before the call got there. That’s why Fowler said Romney didn’t know how to approach the ball. No, his left hand was pulled down.

Anyway, I think Grimes is trying to do a few things and most are working. Get Hifo the ball in space. Hit the TEs. But I sure like these guys catching the ball on drag routes where they can get YAC instead of the curl routes for six yards.

And get El Bakri the ball out of the back field like vs AZ.

I just don’t see the WRs making a big impact. That’s why you see Milne getting so many minutes. Best case is Tanner and Romney get good chemistry and improve a bit over the season and continue to rely on the other guys listed above, a great OL, and win the turn over battle.

Tanner just doesn’t have the kind of receivers he had as a freshman that he could count on to haul in anything. And I’m not suggesting he couldn’t do better, but I think the receivers have more to work on collectively than Tanner does. And I realize his QBR puts him quite low in FBS standings.
