After watching every BYU and Washington game this year I’m convinced
I have no idea how this game is going to turn out. Anything from a huge Washington blowout to another narrow BYU victory is possible.

The Huskies have yet to put together a really impressive game. Losing to Auburn on the road is nothing to be embarrassed about but the offense never got on track. The North Dakota game was actually a lot like the McNeese State game except the UW second string ran the score up. Most of you saw the Utah game and UW struggled to put away a very beatable ute team. Last night against ASU was a relatively comfortable game but UW just couldn’t pull away.

Jake Browning still looks like something is off. There is actually a lot of similarity to Tanner with a guy who exceeded expectations early and regressed in the following years. The one thing he has going for him is a group of incredible receivers. Bachellia, Jones, McClatcher, and Fuller are all better than any WR Tanner has to throw to.

Gaskins and Ahmed are both solid if not spectacular backs with big play potential. And the UW line and Tight Ends are solid but haven’t dominated anybody.

The UW defense is aggressive and creates turnovers but also have a tendency to give up chunk plays. Arizona had fairly consistent success with misdirection and running off tackle last night.

BYU at times looks like a serious contender (3rd quarter against Arizona, most of the game against Wisconsin, and the second quarter against McNeese St) and at times looks like the exact same team as last year (Most of the Cal game, 1st quarter against McNeese St).

I think the most realistic positive outcome for BYU in Seattle is a narrow defeat a la Cal. A game where they show enough to climb back into the top 25 if they can keep winning when the schedule softens up.

I’m just happy to be going to a game that isn’t guaranteed to be bloodbath. And from Washington’s perspective, BYU has done them a big favor by working their way into the top 25 to improve their perceived strength of their schedule.
