My advice: don’t start by picking stocks.
I work in the financial industry and used to day trade on the side.

6 years of trading left me with a choice:

Continue to spend hours researching stocks (some of them winners, many flat-liners or even worse; losers) hoping to beat the market and thousands other day traders and full-time analysts.

OR

Buy into mutual funds and let those analysts do the work for me.

Currently I only own 2 individual stocks. The rest of my portfolio is tied up in mutual funds. My returns aren’t as high as they once were but the trade-off in hours and risk was worth it.

My 2 cents. Good luck.
