are distancing themselves from the rest.
As discussed in the parent thread, three years ago the P5 adopted a measure to guarantee a 4-year scholarship (in all sports). The scholarship could be be rescinded because of performance or if a better athlete came along.
The player could be dismissed from the team but as long as he was academically and otherwise qualified to remain in school, his scholarship was guaranteed for 4 years.
The scholarship still counts against and is funded by the program unless it is converted into a non-athletic scholarship
Many, if not most of the G5 school cannot afford to offer such a guarantee. Many have not been able to match the other P5 adopted measures:
This is a list of measures adopted by the power conferences since autonomy was granted; I may not have remembered all of them:
1. The aforementioned scholarships
2. Full cost of attendance
3. Three training table meals per day.
Snacks available 24-hours a day
4. Health care premiums paid for up to 7 years after the athlete has left school.
5. Paid medical expenses, for up to 2 years after leaving school for injuries sustained while playing their scholarship sport.
6. Guaranteed scholarships for athletes who left school early to pursue a professional career. Once that career is over, the athlete can return to school to finish his/her degree and be given the remainder of the scholarship.
There is no time limit to on this provision. Such scholarship are converted to academic scholarships and are not charged to the athletic department.
7. Travel allowance for two family members of athletes participating in CFP, NY6 or other bowl games, Final Four, and any other national championship game, for all other scholarship sports.
