While Swift is a great satirist (I especially enjoy A Modest Proposal) Gulliver's Travels isn't quite the masterpiece that Candide is. In short, Voltaire's satirical targets and subject matters are more impressive and his total annihilation of them what makes Candide his magnum opus. But I don't entirely agree with using one to subtract from the other, they're
just not quite similar enough for me.
