For me, it started when I realized that BYU was never getting in a P5, and the final straw when we lost the 2016 Utah game. I knew that if BYU could not beat Utah with Jamaal, Taysom, Kai Nacua, Francis Bernard, and Fred Warner, it was unlikely we ever would beat Utah again. I still watch every game, but I don't get super hyped up like I used to, and I definitely don't care as much when they lose. I just take the wins when they come and am happy for the team when they play well, and realize that BYU football competes at an appropriate level given their recruiting and coaching restrictions when they lose. It also helps to follow another team, maybe a local one if you live out of state, that plays well and is fun to watch. For me, the Oklahoma Sooners fill that role. High School teams are also fun to watch. There is a variety of good football to watch and enjoy, while at the same time accepting BYU for what it is.
