Most of that is due to the opponents lined up. We play inconsistent opponents (a good team, then a terrible team, then a bad team, then a really good team, etc.). We caught Wisconsin sleeping on us and barely beat them (which made us bowl eligible). Without a conference, we will continue to see this trend continue. We don't play a string of decent G5s like we used to in order to see any consistency. Also, to our opponents, we are a less important, non-conference game, so we will get inconsistency from the opponent as well because half of them won't care about the game, and half of them will care too much about the game.
