The leaps and bounds we have made in treating potentially fatal bacterial infections is astonishing. What is equally astonishing (or horrifying) is how ineffective what worked 50 yrs (I.e penicillin) can be on present day infections.

Yeah, I wonder if amputation is a possibility here. Infections can lead there.
