You're assuming the GOR is for more than 5-6 years
The Big 12 grant of rights expires on June 30, 2025. The AAC could sign a 6-year TV deal with a GOR that expires on that same date. Get a better payout for the 6-year media deal, from 2020 to 2025...but preserve the flexibility for potential 2025 realignment scenarios.
FWIW, the current AAC and MWC deals were for 7 years, expiring in 2019. The B1G media deal with FOX Sports and ESPN was for 6 years, expiring after the 2022 season.
