Problem is, McKay is one of those guys who leaves his man on the perimeter to
supposedly double team some other guy on the perimeter. I simply can't understand why this can't be fixed, although it got better briefly when Emery came in to try to keep guys where they needed to be, as opposed to doing half-traps on the perimeter, and then spectating at other times. There are so many possessions where attempted doubles result in open 3's for the other team, as well as so many possessions where 1 or 2 cougars are simply guarding NO ONE, and might as well be eating a cougar tail on the bench.

I just don't get why these guys think that double-teaming someone on the perimeter will not inevitably leave someone else WIDE OPEN, and the other teams all know it. They just wait for teams coached by Rose to do what they predictably do, OVER AND OVER AGAIN - it's an easy scouting report strategy. This team is possibly the most fundamentally flawed defensive team in the nation over the last 5 years, or at least the most fundamentally flawed team that otherwise ranks in the top 100 BPI. It's becoming mind-numbing how many teams and players have their absolute best shooting day of the season when they play BYU. It's becoming very hard to watch. I had to stop the game several times and do slow-mo to show my 12 yo who plays middle school girl's basketball what truly BAD DEFENSE looks like, with players guarding no one, and others leaving perimeter guys wide open because they are WAYYY out of position. Sad thing, it wasn't hard for my 12 yo to see the problem clearly, as BYU is an absolute clinic of how BAD DEFENSE looks.

That being said, UNLV was riding our backs on offensive rebounds all night long, yet they shot 32 FT's to out 20.
