As long as both the reticle and the turrets are the same (Mil/Mil, Moa/Moa) you are good to go (which Vortex usually is). I know exactly what you mean with the familiarity, and there are certainly benefits to that.
All of my gear is MRAD, but that was more because that was the standard, which was important when communicating with others. I do like that everything is in tenths, and everything is consistent that way, which makes adjustments very easy - but it requires making all estimations in meters and getting used to metric distance measurements, which took me some time (though the rangefinder helped a lot). I also learned how to mil targets on an MRAD scope, and haven't ever used an MOA. I have virtually zero experience working with MOA scopes, but I imagine the principles are the same. MRAD is typically the Military/LE standard, but there are lots of good online resources for both MRAD and MOA systems.
Vortex makes great scopes though, that one should get the job done. I have one FFP scope (the rest of mine are SFP), but it sure is nice to be able to mil range targets at all settings.
