International and GM formed a partnership that has produced a pretty killer commercial vehicle...

It brings Chevy back into the commercial space and allows International to play in the 4-5 class again.

I highly doubt we will see the return of the Scout anytime soon. It isn't part of their current strategy and their CEO is very focused on regaining the share they lost in the commercial space when their engine tech strategy failed. However, if Navistar's International does rebuild (things are going pretty well for them lately) they could be looking for some domestic expansion opportunities that they could grab.

Navistar still has some "International" brand value in the consumer space. They've not maintained their consumer designs and engineering but they have some interesting partnerships and relationships that could recover that really quickly. The first, with GM, has obviously already produced something meaningful. But they also have history with JAC in China and, perhaps more importantly, Mahindra. Navistar and Mahindra used to have a JV which produced a vehicle for foreign markets that won truck of the year awards and was quite good. That JV is disolved but they maintain license agreements and some engineering sharing on vehicle and engine tech.

If Navistar wanted to bring back a Scout branded vehicle perhaps the Mahindra Thar/Roxor is a place to start. The Roxor needs some serious up-engineering to be worthy but the Thar is a bit more robust. I could see a day that Navistar decides to get back into the consumer market, especially if the space occupied by Jeep stays as hot as it's been. It would be interesting to see if they could pull off a resurgence of some of their long-gone brands... but it would be a win for enthusiasts. So Mahindra is an option, but so is GM in a joint effort. If we could get a Blazer the fans really want that also brought a Scout it could be an interesting partnership for sure.
