So I've decided to grow a trek beard. What tips do you hairy Brethren have?

In my adult life, I've not gone more than 7 days without shaving, so I don't know how to grow one without itching. I also don't know the proper way to wash a beard.

I've heard you can use beard oils or balms to keep itch under control. Any recommendations? Also, do you just wash it with shampoo like you do your hair?

Beard oil. Buy it, love it, understand it. It minimizes the itchiness

I use a bit of both. Oil softens it and balm keeps it in control. Also see edit

I still oil it but I use a small dime amount of oil and a finger tip of balm.

Should be noted, I trim my beard monthly at 7mm so you might find something
