Oh, I've read it
There are various old eat your vegetables tomes that I found both more entertaining and more rewarding than LOTR: House of Mirth, War and Peace, Crime and Punishment, etc.
There are some classics that are less worth reading of course — The Good Soldier, Foucault's Pendulum, etc. — but I didn't find LOTR particularly engaging or intrisically rewarding or enlightening.
