I think most states around that population have just the one city that size, somewhere around 200k. The states that get more populated around 4-6 million usually have at least one that size if not larger, but then there are a few others to go with it.

There are a few exceptions, like SC, where the difference isn't made up in larger cities, but there are just a TON more of the smaller cities, 20k-100k. Where places like Utah, Idaho, etc have a few in one area, and then a big empty state.
