It never happened. My guess is that Akroyd and Murray weren't happy with
the reboot and what it did to their legacy, so they decided to reclaim it. My guess is that Egon will be a ghost. One of the earlier scripts for Ghostbusters 3 that Murray rejected had Venkman as a ghost. Likely they'll switch that around for Egon, since Ramis is dead.
