Used with modifed real firearms, typically for force-on-force exercises, training, and scenarios. It's essentially a modified casing with a lesser powder charge than real rounds, and a rubberized/plastic projectile filled with marking paint.

The .223 rounds have impressive punch to them. They certainly leave a mark.
