From what I’ve seen, the knocks are that it’s overwrought, particularly the end

That seems worth seeing to me. Basically the opposite of Lady in the Water, Signs, and The Village, which all had really good ideas and themes but were way undercooked.

BTW, I like The Village, but it could have been a great movie rather than just a solid one with some wonky detracting factors.
