Those ads probably aren't based on eavesdroped conversations. It is far more
likely that they are based off searches performed by other people in the same household. That search data will be tied to the public IP address. Search history data will often affect advertising everyone at a household.
This is actually far more respectful of privacy than data that is associated with a specific person.
