This happened with the Reid boys
Randy and Robbie were both legitimate D-1 talents. Robbie proved the better player in college, but both were deserving of their schollys.

The problem was that the prospects of competing with the coach's kids drove practically everyone else away. I talked with one such LDS guard who signed with another D-1 program. He expressed this precise sentiment. Shortly after the Reids cycled through, we won a single game with perhaps the worst lineup in program history. Matt Montague, and his nonexistent jump shot, was our best guard that year as a true freshman.

When we sign big prospects, and those prospects don't pan out, sometimes it's a gift that keeps giving.

That said, as pointed out above, we did keep signing good players during and after LP3. We've failed to develop them and keep them at BYU. Now we're failing to recruit as well.

The aftermath of Randy and Robbie ultimately cost Reid his job. Failure to deliver anything of note with the LP3 may do the same for Rose.
