For me I never clone and I will tell you why....but I install OS's all the time
Windows over time becomes more inefficient, and computers being "slowing" down due to a variety of issues. Mostly because they become inefficient at finding the information and registry inconsistencies cause computers to do alot of spinning their wheels.

When I put in a new SSD, if the system is windows 10 its easy if you are willing to reinstall programs. I always take this opportunity to really think about what programs I am using. You can download windows 10 USB install package from Microsoft (8gig or larger, I use 32 gig and have a bunch of programs available to download on it, antivirus, common drivers etc). I pull out the current hard drive, replace it with the new SSD. And then boot the computer with the USB flash drive windows 10 install stick. Microsoft keeps your SID numbers from your computer in their activiation database. so if the computer already has win 10, then you wont need your code as when you re-activate it, it will automatically put your key on the machine (install the same edition of software). Let Windows do all the updates. and there will be atleast 1 major compilation release, with a bunch of smaller packages. Also give it time and it will pull the drivers for most hardware.

Once the patches have been installed then i plug in the Old hard drive. and copy the user folders into the new user folders. This will put all of your personal files back on the machine (outlook changed where it keeps its PST and OST files so that they will get moved also with this process.

Finally I reinstall the software that I will need on it.

That way the system is fresh, not a clone, and i keep really only what I use.

Hope it helps
