a starting job at any university. I have always told my son, everybody eventually catches up. That is kind of broad but the point is, kids will stand out at different ages because they all seem to "mature" at different times. On my son's coach pitch team we had the only kid in the league that couild hit homeruns. We ran into him three years later in 10U. He was nothing, not even the close the best on his team. I saw this over and over. I think Tom Brady is the perfect example. Was pretty good in H.S. so he got a ride at MI. Was good at MI so he got drafted into the NFL and then finally "matured" and will go down as the greatest QB ever to play in the NFL (not my words but NFL pundit's words).
So coach them coaches, get them to buy in and gain the confidence they need and especially teach them to believe in themselves and their teammates and the attitude of winning / expecting to win.
