One other note about teens driving with other teens in the car...
The law (in Utah) is that for the first six months they have a license, they aren't allowed to drive anyone under the age of 18 unless a) it's an immediate family member or b) there is an adult 21+ in the passenger seat. There are exceptions in case of emergencies and agricultural work. Don't let your kids try to tell you that it's okay to drive their friends to or from school or work.

There's also a law (in Utah) that until they are 17, they aren't allowed to drive between midnight and 5:00 a.m. There are certain exceptions to that for employment and agricultural work. There is also an exception to that if they were at a school sponsored activity and the school bus they were in arrives back at the school after midnight. In that case, they are allowed to drive their car straight home.

So, there is a school exception in certain cases for the 2nd law, but not for the first law.
