As long as it's reliable, there's a certain freedom to driving a car that
doesn't give you heartburn when you get a scratch or someone sits on the hood. Go ahead, lean your bike against it while you lube the chain. Put that box on the roof while you move some other stuff around. Basketball rebounded long and bounced on the hood? Good thing the car was there, or I'd be having to go chase the ball down. But I'm not fretting about the car.

Park in tight spaces? Sure.
Worry about grocery carts? Nope.
Need to pretend the trunk is really a pickup bed for a day? No biggie.

So many people (including me, when I'm driving newer cars) fret about keeping their new cars, new.
Older, but still reliable, cars are the automotive world reminding us that "Cars were made for man, not man for cars."
