Between my wife and I, we've had 10.
That includes an old Scout II that I picked up for $500 and a little pickup I got for around $3K for the kids to drive and to haul stuff to the dump in.
We tend to buy them used - too often with pretty high miles - and drive them until they're dead. So I don't spend much on them.
