You can't write off your entire cell phone bill for $1,000 of 1099 income.
Sure tons of people do it. But that is horrible advice and shows a lack of understanding of how the IRS treats cell phones as a write off against self employment income.

But don't discredit the advice to right off any legitimate expense related to that income.
