Poor marketing research, strategic short-sightedness and no optionality to the
platform. If they had created a single cylinder, structural fuselage that could also be used as a freighter, they might have been able to weather the storm a bit longer. Initial marketing suggested 1,200 planes but ended up with something like 230 orders. The advancement of super efficient planes on long haul lower capacity routes (like the 787) was the real killer.

I’ve flew in the A380 once from on Quatar airlines from London to Dubai. I really like it—nice amenities and really smooth because of the size. But it is just way too big for today’s preferred travel.
