Federal subsidized Stafford Loans.... anyone familiar with the specific

Qualifications associated with the subsidized loans. How is it determined if a student is eligible for them. My son will be a rm in the fall does it take into account his last yrs of income as well as parents income? Or is it just his. What are the limits etc
