Diversity at my company is a huge issue - even more so this year. I've been trying to get my company to recruit at the Y, but I'm seeing 2 factors I think might be contributing beyond academic/student reputation:
- Diversity - gender, ethnicity, etc (In fact at my company for IT they have targeted recruiting going on at the historical black colleges).
- Perception that BYU is a Utah school and that any employees that hire on either will want to live in Utah or eventually move to Utah (thus hurting the future employee retention). To me this is just ignorance on the recruiters given how many states BYU students come from.
If being recruited by some specific companies is a significant factor - your son might want to take that into consideration.
For me and my kids - that was lower on the priority scale. Having a church-school education and environment was much higher on my priority list than anything else - including majors, costs, future jobs, etc.
Let me be clear - this is just what I see happening at my company - and only for IT. This is obviously not true for all companies and not all industries or degrees.
