The lesson is that life isn't fair. It's isn't even fair within the same group.
You have to read the environment and the people that you are with. I had a few horrible bosses in my teen years but I knew what set them off and I knew if I wanted to keep my job what to do and what not to do. It's life. It's not an excuse for the terrible RA, but control what you can control.
