bonus (something like 1.5 points out of 100) to students who lived east of Colorado. So, students from the west had a slight disadvantage, but that includes people from Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, California, etc.
So unless things have changed in the last couple years, a kid from Ohio would have a slight advantage over a kid from Utah. But a kid from Utah and a kid from California would be treated exactly the same.
As an aside, BYU also gave slight bonuses to kids from tiny rural high schools, first in the family to attend college and a few other things. Those bonuses were small, but could make a difference for people on the cusp.
