would kill Netflix. His reasoning was that streaming services were a commodity for Amazon. They can afford to lose money on them because their real goal is to get eyeballs on their platform where they can sell people stuff. Contrast this to Netflix where streaming is the business.
This argument was made before Netflix wisely got into the business of original content. That changed the equation a bit for them. But I think there's still truth to that argument. Netflix needs one or two buzzworthy shows at all times to keep people from unsubscribing. One drought can do a lot of damage.
