It's not individualism that's killing us. It's the lack of our connections that is killing us. One can be independent and want to make it on their own and still have strong connections from loved ones.
It's why the Proclamation on the Family is so prophetic. Without the foundation of functioning families with a mother and father fulfilling traditional roles on a wide scale, things start to fall apart and the societal ills of drug abuse, mental issues, and other "calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets" become more commonplace.
