Off-season rehab is pretty common. I don't know if it's crucial for OL
to really be all that available in the spring. They need guys, but I don't think live action experience is crucial for them during that time. It's more for newer guys. What they need to be doing is learning how to play under the new style of offense they'll run. That's part of the reason for the late season dip in performance. Changing from Tanner to Zach changed a whole lot for OL schemes and now they should have the hang of it. I don't think much about how the OL performed as far back as Cal. Not only were their schemes different than they are now, it was early in the season when most of them were brand new. Everyone except Hoyt was new. So I don't care how they did against Cal.
The OL is pretty well established and the starters got their experience. Spring ball is much more important for guys like LaChance, Smith, and Herring.

What I'm interested in is how they go about getting the best 5 out there and if they can do it because guys are versatile. Many of the best OL's have a few guys who are just so good they can play 3 or 4 different spots. So if we have two really good players competing for a guard spot and a tackle spot is still open, maybe one of them can fill it.
Can a new guy fill that spot or will one of our guys from last year be good enough that they can take the outside? Could Longson go back out there? I never imagined him as a guard, but he started doing well. He or Saleapaga could take the outside. Or someone like LaChance could take a big step forward.

It's nice to know that for the first time in a decade we don't have to worry about the OL. We don't have to worry about the quality of coach they have, the talent level of the players. We've finally made it back and have some guys who can give us the combination of body type, athleticism, and talent to go pro. It's weird to think we have options, and more than 5, so a few quality guys will be on the bench. Feels good to say that for once.
