She was financially ok to retire but wanted something to do. She was really no longer very proficient at her job. But didn’t want to give it up and finances were only a very small part of that.

The company kept her around probably 5 years after she stopped being very useful, and she was making way more than her counterparts even though they were much better at the job. They eventually had a conversation with her and let her go part time so she worked 1-2 days a week for about year before they phased her out altogether
