Is the talent pool for LDS basketball players more shallow than ever before?
If so, what is driving it? Even with our football program being down I can at least point to LDS athletes going to other schools and finding success. I just don't see it with basketball.

Is it demographics? Our talent pool continues to be generally white Americans - and there seems to be less and less of those finding success in the NBA these days, regardless of religious persuasion.

Below is an article from a couple years ago that talks about it some. Funny quote by JJ Redick at the end, when asked what advice he would give to a young white American kid who dreams of playing in the NBA:

"First of all, you better grow. I get a lot of parents who come up to me and they’re like, ‘My son wants to play in the NBA.’ I’m like, ‘You’re 5-10 and your wife is 5-6.’ Just tell him to get a good education, you know... If you’re a 5-9 white guy, good luck to you, bro. Good luck to you, man."

Yeah, that's why I'm guiding my kids more toward soccer than basketball
