I agree, but just to play devils advocate, at least the legal way of doing it
benefits the school. Some or all students will benefit from the donation/bribe depending on how the money is allocated.
I assume that this is how it is justified.

Yeah. Most rich people just make a huge donation then call in a favor. This was far more complicated.
