Basketball and football admittedly are not in a good position, however I can't really fault him for the hire of sitake at head coach for BYU since at the time it seemed like a hire that most agreed with.
And I think people would have gone crazy if he would have fired coach Rose last year or the year before when the program appeared to be in a decline but not as significant as what we saw this year.
I also can't fault him for the team up the road suddenly getting a huge infusion of cash. (And frankly I don't think he's the decision maker on BYU's budget)
Utah State being better than BYU is an aberration in my opinion, but Utah having passed BYU is obviously reality.
My biggest frustration honestly has been with hoops and seeing the lack of innovation and quality of assistant coaches that happened brought into the program recently
