I’m haven’t lived with my parents for 26 years, and haven’t lived in Utah for 16 (parents are in Utah). The other day while working on my sprinkler system, I ran into an issue and immediately thought to myself, “man, I wish my dad were here to help, he’d know exactly what to do,”. My dad hasn’t passed, but he’s back in Utah and not nearby where I can ask him to swing by and help me out.
As I thought more about that thought, I realized just how much I still rely on my dad, despite not living near him or with him for so many years.
Made me want to be a better dad to my kids, and I Hope they’ll have similar thought thirty years after they’ve moved out of my home.
