capable of doing root canals on simple teeth. Some dentists struggle. I know some general dentists who can do a root canal better than some endodontists. So really, it depends. It depends on the quality of work the dentist does. As a dentist myself, I wouldn't hesitate to have some of my general dentist colleagues do a root canal on me or my family. But I also know what is beyond my skill set and when to refer out the difficult cases. If your dentist can do that, then trust your dentist. But if he doesn't know his limits and does garbage work, go to the endodontist, but even then make sure it is a quality endodontist.
