I believe to be eligible for the playoffs a player must be on the team's reserve
List by the trade deadline.
Since Schuldt was an undrafted college free agent who signed after the deadline, he is ineligible.
Makar was drafted, so the Avs had his draft rights and he was on their reserve list.
It's why Gusev is also eligible to play for the VGK in the postseason. He was on their reserve list because they gained his exclusive rights Tampa when they agreed to take Garrison in the expansion draft.
