The expanding bloat and cost of streaming services is frustrating.
As I look at the issues with traditional pay TV services there are some thing that stand out. The high prices (sans 1-2 year agreements) are a big one. It is also frustrating to see the many add-ons and service fees with each set up. But more than anything the issue I have is with choice. Packages are not flexible enough and spread the cost of a lot of crappy channels across all subscribers. I don't want to pay for 100 channels if 10 are the most I or my family will use.

Streaming services started out well enough, with skinny bundles that were hitting on some of the more popular channels. The lack of service fees and equipment rentals is a nice bonus. But now we are heading back down the path of more content, ever increasing costs, and less choice.

I don't want more content. I want to choose the content I pay for. The studios, with their desire to support all of their channels and production plans, are not going to let channels be broken up into smaller packages. It seems the only way that happens is for more people to become true cord-cutters. If the networks hit a point where the bulk of their revenue is coming through syndication to streaming services instead of usage fees perhaps we will see the shift in offerings.

In the mean time it seems we are stuck in the cycle of ever increasing content and channels with an all or nothing choice.
